How to set a daily limit that actually sticks

A realistic limit, day-rings, and three rules that work — no spreadsheets, no giving up by Wednesday.

Most daily limits fall apart by Wednesday. Not because you overspent, but because the limit was unrealistic from the start. Here’s how to set one that actually sticks.

1. Start from your real average, not your wish

Open last month’s spending and look at your median daily spend, not the average — the average gets pulled up by rare big receipts. Set your limit close to the median, then lower it gradually.

2. Separate out fixed costs

Rent, bills and subscriptions aren’t “daily spending.” Move them into their own Space so your daily ring shows only what you actually control day to day.

3. Watch the ring, not the number

Kinta shows your limit as a ring that fills up. The visual signal works better than a figure — a half-full ring at 3pm is a clearer message than “spent 1,240 of 2,000.”

Set your limit tonight, scan tomorrow’s first receipt, and let the ring fill itself in.
